Philadelphia Record Labels

 
Dave Louis, historian, label owner and collector has compiled one of the most comprehensive lists of small and independent 45RPM labels coming out of one of the most important music cities in the world.  Philadelphia has been long known for its amazing studios (ie: Virtue, Sigma, Impact) and its proximity to both FrankFort / Wayne (then Masterworks) mastering house and Diskmakers pressing plant. All of these combined throughout the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s to create a hot bed for small independent labels.  Mostly producer, studio owner or even artist owned labels flourished in Philadelphia during these years.
